Further south and on the oppositeside of Church street, on the corner of Main, is the Custom Houseand Post-office, a brick structure with mansard roof, built byUncle Sam in the Mullet architectural period. The United StatesCustom House for the \ermont District is located in the secondand third stories of this building, the Post Office on the groundfloor. C2 PICTURESQUE BURLIXGTOX. Prominent among the attractive structures of the city are thebuildings of the University of \ermont, on the summit of thehill, notably the main building, tlie Billings Library and the resi-dences. The Billings Library would find a place in any truthfullist of the twenty finest public buildings in this country. Itsarchitect was Richardson. It is the most conspicuous architec-tural ornament of the city and should be seen by all who have theopportunity. The main Lniversity building, with its high Nor-man gables, compares well with
