New recruits with Echo Company, 2nd Recruit Training Battalion, wait to make their initial phone call home during receiving at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, Feb 12. The next time recruits will be able to contact their loved ones will be by postal mail. Their initial letter home should be expected within 2-3 weeks upon arrival. Annually, more than 17,000 males recruited from the Western Recruiting Region are trained at MCRD San Diego. Echo Company is scheduled to graduate May 11.
