Meyer (left), Arsuaga (centre) and Paabo (right), human evolution researchers. Matthias Meyer is a researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. Spanish palaeoanthropologist Juan Luis Arsuaga (born 1954) is best known for his work at the Atapuerca fossil sites, where he has been co-director since 1991. The Atapuerca fossil sites are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, containing the earliest human remains found in Europe. Swedish evolutionary geneticist Svante Paabo (born 1955) is director of genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology. He pioneered the recovery of DNA from ancient animals and plants. Paabo's team published the full Neanderthal genome in 2010. Photographed in 2014.
