Joan of Arc (c1412-1431) also known as St Jeanne d'Arc, the Maid of Orleans, French patriot and martyr, (19th century). Tried for heresy and sorcery, burnt at the stake in the market place at Rouen, 30 May 1431. Priest on ladder holds crucifix as flames flicker round St Joan's feet.
