Oakham, Rutland, UK. 26th September, 2014. Over 500 bats have taken up residence in All Saints church in the village of Braunston near Oakham in Rutland. They moved there after a chimney they were living in collapsed. Most of the females were pregnant and gave birth to their young after moving to the church swelling the numbers. 26th September 2014. Braunston Nr Oakham, Rutland, Over 500 bats have taken up residence in All Saints church in the village of Braunston near Oakham in Rutland. They moved there after a chimney they were living in collapsed. Most of the females were pregnant and gave birth to their young after moving to the church swelling the numbers. Church members are now having to clear up the mess created by the bats before services can be undertaken. The Rev Audrey Atkinson, team vicar said: “It’s a nightmare, it’s driving us mad. If we were a school we would have to close down.” She has now asked local MP Rt Hon Sir Alan Duncan for help with the situation. He has promised to raise the matter with the Church Commissioner in Parliament
