Milk products. Milk is a liquid produced by mammals to feed their young. Cow milk can be processed and sold in various forms. This includes pasteurised milk (bottle), ultra-high-temperature processing (UHT) milk (carton), evaporated milk (can), and powdered milk (lower right). Pasteurisation and UHT are preservation methods that reduce the amount of microbes and help the milk last longer. Evaporation and powdering remove water from the milk (the water is added again before use), also increasing the milk's shelf life. Fully dessicated powdered milk lasts longest if kept dry.
