The class 52, 2-10-0, German Kriegslokomotiv was one of the most numerous steam types in railway history with some 6000 being built to follow the German armies as they attempted to over run Europe. As a result of Germany's actions, the Kriegslok spread to virtually every European country to become a standard type. Many were given away as post war reparations to aggrieved countries to help make good the damage done many worked on the Austrian Federal Rly where they were classified 52, Many were flitted with smoke deflectors and Giesl chimneys.
