Madura, South India, Dec. 15, 1879. M is a young woman who is now reading Luke well, and who is in-teresting, and who has a very interesting mother. The mother does notknow how to read, but is eager to listen. They love me, and that is why 1love them. The husband and father is a graver in stone, and works at is in the habit of listening to the Bible readings in his house, and has him-self read through Matthew, Luke, and John. He is a thoughtful man, andwas beginning to feel that he and his wife and daughter -were getting too deepinto the new way, and said so to the Bible-woman. About six months ago, while away from home, he had something like amattack of cholera. His wife went to him, and sent word back to me, Prayfor us, when you meet on Friday night, that he may be well enough to gethome. He was brought home, and has been running down steadily eversince.
