Shrewsbury, Shropshire. 22/04/2017. People gathered in Shrewsbury town centre today to protest against the ‘emergency’ inclusion of Shropshire in the controversial Badger cull, set in place for the control of Bovine TB. As the final year of the controversial cull trials began in August 2016, local MP’s called for Shropshire to be included in the Badger cull. Following the end of the badger cull trials the government announced the culls will continue into 2017, while DEFRA revealed plans to bring a 2 year forecast forward whereby the badger cull will be rolled out across half of the United Kingdom. The historic cull has been shown to be inhumane with badgers dying slow and painful deaths as a result of free-shooting as well as providing no significant contribution to controlling Bovine TB in test zones. The Shropshire Rally against the Badger Cull 2017 has been organised by the concerned residents of Shropshire in conjunction with a variety of grass roots groups and organisations who are dedicated to protecting wildlife locally and nationally.
