Goosander (Mergus merganser). Adult female.
This individual turned up on a relatively small pond in East Hampshire. Although initially wary of people, she soon became quite confiding. The possibility of her escaping from a wildfowl collection cannot be discounted. The species is known as a goosander in Europe, but is sometimes known as the American Merganser in North America.
