He was bom inLisbon, Ohio, September 27, 1871; graduated from High School of Lisbon 1890;attended college at Ohio State University 1890-1891; taught school and studied law1891-1892; entered the Cincinnati Law School and graduated therefrom May 30,1894; returned to Lisbon and engaged in the practice of his profession, and waselected solicitor of his native village in April, 1899; was nominated for StateSenator by the Republican party without opposition, and was elected to the Seventy-fifth General Assembly from the 20-22d joint district by 8,500 majority. He is a member of the standing committees on Claims, Judiciary, Insurance,Medical Colleges and Universities, Public Printing and Railroads and Telegraphs. Senator Crites, Democrat from the 32d District, is the eldest son of Jacob (andMary J. Oameron) Orites; was born in Grerman township, Allen county, Ohio, No-vember 28, 1847, and has ever since been a resident of his native township. He wasbrought up on the farm and experienced many of the hardships and privationsincident to pioneer life. He was educated at the schools of his native townshipand at the National Normal University at Lebanon, Ohio, when Alfred Holbrookwas President of that institution. He began teaching at the age of eighteen; inSeptember, 1870, he was elected Superintendent of the Elida public schools, whichposition he successfully held for twelve successive years, when he was forced toresign on account of ill health. From 1876 to 1888 he was a member of the AllenCounty Board of School Examiners
