Titanic (left) and Olympic (right) under construction. The bows of these sister ships of the White Star Line are surrounded by scaffolding at the Harland and Wolff docks in Belfast, UK. RMS Titanic was built between 31 March 1909 and 31 May 1911. The largest ocean liner ever built at the time, Titanic was reputed to be unsinkable. However, during its maiden voyage it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic on the night of 14 April 1912 and sank with the loss of 1517 lives. RMS Olympic, built between 16 December 1908 and 20 October 1910, was in service from 1911 to 1935. This photograph is from the Bain News Service.
