Nano-device development. Close-up of the construction of a nano-device, known as the Canceropuce. The electronic circuit board can be seen (blue) over which is placed a plastic mask (yellow, see-through). Nano-fluids are placed over the mask and adhere to the exposed areas of the circuit board. The Canceropuce is being developed to detect trace amounts of biomarkers, including those of cancerous tumours. Biomarkers are used to detect whether or not a biological process is occurring normally. Photographed at the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), Toulouse, France.
