The practice adopted bysome societies of declaring the exhibition closed and of calling on the horseraces the same afternoon is not sufficient to enable the parties in charge toevade the provisions of the Act. Members of societies, and in fact any per-sons who object to horse racing at agricultural exhibitions, have the right totake action against the officers of societies which conduct these races. This law should either be enforced or modified. This is another matterwhich members of agricultural societies should thoroughly discuss at theirannual Encouraging boys to try tlieir luck in draw lotteries. Suggested Impkovemeats. There are many lines of work the agricultural societies of Ontario mightlake up which would greatly increase their usefulness. Some of the societies,instead of holding annual exhibitions and entering iuto competition withother societies, might purchase and circulate pure-bred male stock. A largeproportion of the agricultural societies and farmers clubs in Quebec, NewBrunswick and Nova Scotia own and circulate stock. In Nova Scotia 172societies own stock and only about six hold exhibitions each year. The NovaScotia government has reserved the right to allow societies to hold exhibi-tions, and care is taken to see that only a limited number are held in the prov-ince each year.
