Bayamo is the capital of Granma province, founded in 1531 by the Spanish it is more one the most peaceful towns in Cuba, Bayamo flourished in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries when it was a smugglers haven and market. Perucho Figueredo,was a Bayamo born independence fighter remembered for writing the Cuban National anthem La Bayamesa in 1868 The statue features a panel with the words of the anthem and the musical score on the other panel
