STEVENS, of Hebron, Conn., enlisted November 17, 1861; mustered in November 25, 1861;re-enlisted veteran December 19,1863; mustered out of the UnitedStates service at Manchester, op-posite Richmond, Va., June 11,1865, after having participated inthe entry of the firstUnion troopsinto the Confederate capital. Comrade Stevens grandfatherserved in the War of 1812. Comrade Stevens had an excit-ing experience when sent byCaptain Clinton from Richmondto City Point with a number ofcondemned horses. He had anarrow escape from being captured by the enemy.
