In the Astrotech facility technicians and engineers place the heatshield on the NASA Mars InSight Lander prior to encapsulation in its payload fairing at the Vandenberg Air Force Base Space Launch Complex 3 April 12, 2018 in Lompoc, California. The Insight which stands for Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport, will be the first mission to look deep beneath the Martian surface and is scheduled for liftoff May 5, 2018.
