Participant couples performing a medieval dance of gaiety and love and rebellion during Carnival in Gozo in Malta.

Participants dance rhytmically and in a circular manner in order to twirl and wrap strings around a bamboo pole during the dance known as Il-Bixkilla, one setpiece of the medieval dance performance known as the Kumittiva, an old type of dance performed during Carnival in Xaghra in Malta.
