About 20 species of nearly stemless plants, mostly from tropical America, with large, oblong or lanceolate, acuminate or cuspidate, long-petioled leaves and flowers on a long-peduncled spadix subtended by an oblong or lanceolate, leaf-like, white, persistent, flat spathe: stigma 3-4-lobed: ovules in each locule 2-8, fixed at the interior angles of the cells.
