Moreover, he knew how to select hisvictims and used his rifle with telling discrimination. He seemed to pick out theofficers. A few minutes stopped the advance of the Seventh. In the meantime WhiteBird and several other warriors rushed out from their camp, mounted their horsesand made for the hills. The Second Cavalry had become widely scattered over thevalley.
