Nelson Co., Vortland, Me.—Slid THE STATE CAPITOL This splendid edifice appropriately located upon the central hilltop of Albany, 155 feet above the Hudson, is a conspicuous object from every approach to the city,and is considered the finest building in the world. The grounds embrace nearly eight acres, three of which arc covered by the huge dimensions of the Capitol. Itis built of solid Maine granite, in architectural plan a modified French Renaissance style, around a central square court. The cornerstone was laid with Masonicceremonies in June, 1871.
