For feed-water purposes there are twosingle Marsh 12-in. x 7^-in. x 12-in. 4000 hp special Cochrane open heater isused for heating the feed water. On the boilerroom side of the dividing wall and behind theboilers is a main steam header, 14 ins. indiameter and 140 ft. long, that supplies the the bottom of all excavations, andaverage 10 ft. high, 1 ft. 9 ins. wideat the top, and 2 ft. 6 ins. wide at thebottom, being widened at each piercorresponding
