Splittermine. Computer artwork of a splittermine (SM-70) antipersonnel mine firing. These devices were mounted on rural sections of the East German border with West Germany from 1970. They were activated by tripwires that were triggered when the fence was climbed or cut. The cone of fire produced by the SM-70 was lethal within 25 metres.
