Sergey Botkin (1832-1889). Historical image of the Russian clinician, therapist and activist Sergey Petrovich Botkin. Botkin is considered one of the founders of modern Russian medical science and education. He introduced the idea of triage, pathological anatomy and post mortem diagnostics into Russian medical practice. In 1873 he was elected President of the Society of Russian Medics and was the court physician for Tsar Alexander II and III. The Botkin Hospital in St Petersburg, Russia, is named after him.
