SMITH, Bathsheba Wilson, fourthpresident of the Relief Societies in theChurch of Jesus Christ of Latter-daySaints, was born May 3, 1822, in Shinn-sten, Harrison county, West Virginia,daughter of Mark Bigler and Susannah. Ogden. Her father was from Penn-sylvania, her mother from school facilities in her vicinity werelimited. The county of Harrison washilly, and the roads of primitive char-acter; the mode of travel was chieflyon horseback riding, in which few couldexcel her.
