Radiotherapy linear accelerator. The machine at left is a linear accelerator (LINAC), which emits high-energy X-ray radiation as part of radiotherapy to treat diseases such as cancer. The patient is placed on the operating table (right) and the machine is then positioned over them. Radiation is focused on the tumour site, and used to disrupt and kill the cancer cells.
