Figures of Peter the Great and Yakov Dolgorukov are the part of a bas-relief 'The Statesman of Russia' which is the work of sculptors Nikolay Laveretsky and Mikhail Mikeshin. The school reformer from the age of Catherine the Great and the President of the Imperial Academy of Arts Ivan Ivanovich Betskoi ( Betskoy) is shown on the background (right). The Monument to the Millennium of Russia was created by sculptor Mikhail Mikeshin in 1864 and erected in Novgorod Kremlin, on the place were according the legend the mythological Varangian prince Rurik (also known as Riurik) took the power over the Russian tribes in 864. Rurik was the first ruler of Kievan Rus and the founder of the Rurik Dynasty.
