A German war chest,circa 1700. Rectangular,iron strongbox with iron strap fittings. Hinged lid(with a restored defect),central keyhole with a spring-loaded cover. Locking mechanism on the inside with seven latches. The hollow shank key is a replacement. Richly engraved,openwork lock cover plate with two leaping lions amid foliage decoration. The front side fitted with a false lock and two hasps. A movable carrying handle on either side.
