The project was announced by the Housing Minister (Mr. Power) last night, it will be carried out by day labour, and will mark the second big model scheme revealed by the Government in a week, the other being at Grovely, where 653 homes are to be built. As at Grovely, the Holland Park project will be carried out according to town planning principles, with shopping, community, and playground centres provided. Mr. Power said that the subdivisional survey of the sites at Seville Road was nearly complete, and clearing of the land was well advanced. Roads and drainage had yet to be surveyed. The Housing Commission's survey and designing staff was already working full time on other important housing pro jects, and. because of the shortage of technical staff, neither the Main Roads Commission nor the Survey Office could undertake the Holland Park road and drainage surveys. Arrangements therefore had been made to let the work to a consulting engineer. Mr. Power said that 20 rental timber houses were to be built by day labour on the Housing Commission's estate at Lunga and Florence Streets, Camp Hill. A £9117/15/ contract had also been let for the erection of seven timber houses at Hunter and Dundonald Streets, Everton Park, Enoggera. The tender price included fencing and drainage.
