Passing on from the Fountain Hotel the interest never convenient platform and stairway have been built at the sideof the road, near Midway Geyser Basin, where passengers alight,cross the foot bridge over the Firehole River, and visit the craterof the largest of all geysers—Excelsior. This geyser is not nowas active as in former years. Upon arrival at Upper Geyser Basin, the visitor goes at once tothe unique Old Faithful Inn. When this hotel was completed, abattleship searchlight was placed upon the roof, nearly onehundred feet above the ground.
