The 100-metre diameter dish of the Effelsberg radio telescope near Bonn, Germany. The telescope is the world's largest fully steerable, single dish radio telescope. It was opened in 1971. The outer part of the dish is made of mesh to reduce the effect of wind pressure distorting the dish's shape. The siting in a valley helps to shield it from radio interference. The control & research buildings can be seen beyond it.
