Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Thermophilic bacterium (Idiomarina loihiensis). This rod shaped, Gram-negative bacterium was isolated from sea water samples taken from hydrothermal vents at Loihi Seamount, Hawaii. Idiomarina loihiensis is thermophilic bacterium that grows at 40-45 degrees Centigrade and at 100psi pressure. Magnification: x3,400 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
