Nothing can excel the beauty and richness of coloring that is found in this class of plants. They are beautiful as pot plants for the con- servatory, making handsome speci- mens for decorative and exhibition purposes, and are now used exten- sively as bedding plants, for which purpose they are exceptionally well adapted. They should be planted in full sun in a position where they can beliberally supplied with water, which develops the most wonderful color- ings in the foliage. Undoubtedly the most interesting and showiest bedding in our Philadelphia parks, the past few years, .was made with this plant. We enumerate below a few of the leading varieties, but can supply many other sorts : Andreanum. Deep green with yellow and crimson markings. Baron James de Rothschild. Olive green and yellow, changing to brilliant crimson. Aureum Haculatum. Long narrow foli- age with numerous yellow spots. Dayspring. Orange-yellow, edged with green and tinged with red. Disraeli. Irregularly shaped leaves, dark green with yellowribs and veins changing to crimson. Evansianum. Tricolored leaves, richly veined and mottled. (See cut.) Fasciatum. Rich green, with golden-yellow ribs and veins, Interruptum. Peculiar twisted leaves with crimson mid-rib. Irregulare. Shining green, irregular leaves with bright yellow blotches and ribs. Veitchii.
