Griessen, Germany, overlooking the Braunkohletagebau Jänschwalde

, Griessen, Brandenburg, Germany - Overlooking the Braunkohletagebau Jänschwalde and Braunkohlefloez which is eroded by coal digger. Up to eleven meters thick is the lignite layer in the soil. The lignite is then transported via conveyor belts for lignite power plant Jaensch forest. So-called Vorschnittbagger, pictured right, carry on the respective strata of the mine until the coal seam is reached. Here's good to see the right image, the so-called overburden conveyor system. About the Foerderbruecke F60 overburden reaches the tailings dump. The mighty sand and soil layers have to be removed to reduce the lignite to then expose for the breakdown.
