The Port of Haifa is the largest in Israel; it has natural deep-water harbor operating all year long, and serves both passenger and merchant ships. It is one of the largest ports in the eastern Mediterranean in terms of freight volume and handles about 30 million tons of cargo per year. Here we see its container port and its gantry cranes early in the morning, viewed from the international terminal, with a large cruise ship in view. I love these giant gantry cranes - they look like enormous cranes (the bird!) ready to Ashdod is now the sixth-largest city in Israel. Located on the Mediterranean coast, it has become one of the most important industrial centers in Israel, whilst its port is the largest in the country, handling about 60% of its sea born cargo.
