The Isaiah Wall, Ralph Bunche Park, New York

Ralph Bunche Park, named after Ralph Bunche, the first African American to be honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize, is situated on First Avenue between 42nd and 43rd Streets. We see a traveller struggling up the Sharansky Steps, dedicated to Natan Sharansky, the Soviet dissident. The wall features an inscription from Isaiah 2:4, "They shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more". The park was built and dedicated in 1948 during the construction of the United Nations Headquarters which is situated across First Avenue.
