William Swann (1884-1962), American physicist. Swann researched cosmic rays and high-energy physics. In 1927 he was chosen to be the first director of the Bartol Research Foundation of the Franklin Institute, where he remained until his retirement in 1959. He is best known for his popular book on the new physics 'The Architecture of the Universe' (in 1934).
