This larger purlin, how- ever, when secured to the rafter by the usual short steel Itnee, might have a tendency to sag a bit. To prevent even the possi- bility of such a thing, we de- signed a special fitting which extends several inches along both under faces of the purlin. It serves the purposes of both a lug and a brace. You see you have a third less rafters, posts and col- umns, which gives so much lighter an cfifect that the purlins and lug brace are in perfect pro- portion to the rest. The ventilation sash header is placed on top of the purlin and screwed securely to it. The header is grooved to receive the end of the glass, making a tight joint. Drip from the sash is carried off by the header gutter.
