Armed Kuki men guard a village in Churachandpur district in the northeastern state of Manipur. Several people in Manipur from the Meitei and the Kuki communities are now living in bunkers, armed with rifles, intercoms and binoculars to protect their villages. These men had regular jobs and some among them went to schools and colleges before ethnic violence gripped the state in May.
