This has killed the sale of many greenhouse flowers, and lilies were offered in quantities at as low as $1 per hundred, whereas last month they brought far more than that per dozen. The only flowers that have retained any semblance of price are cattleyas, valley, gardenias and Spencer sweet peas, all of which have been somewhat scarce. Various Notes. Announcement is made of the mar- riage of Walter E. Hawley, of Gude Bros. Co., to Miss Margaret Oliver, also of this city. The ceremony was per- formed April 15, in Baltimore, Md., where the young people went without letting their friends in on the secret. The news came out by accident, and now the young couple are receiving con- gratulations. Among the visitors last week were A. Farenwald, of Koslyn, Pa.; Arthur Niessen, of the Leo Niessen Co.; Joseph J. Goudy, representing H. A. Dreer, and John Van Aalst, manager of the American branch of Gt. Van Waveren & Kruijff, all of Philadelphia. Ernest F. Gude, son of William F. Gude, who has been working as general utility man for Gude Bros. Co., acting as chauffeur and helping at the make- up table, was recently appointed to a position under the Geological Survey and has been sent to southwestern Ohio with a surveying party. He writes home that he is greatly enjoying the outdoor work and expects to be away until late in the fall. A handsome gold medal, to be com- peted for each year at the annual ex- hibi
