Improved Danish Ballhead Cabbage This variety is also sold under the name of Hollander, German Export and Dutch Winter. The fame of this sort has become world wide, and today stands without a peer, as the hardest head- ing cabbage, longest keeping qualities, and great weight for its size. This variety has been selected and perfected for more than fifty years by the Danish gardeners. In Denmark and Holland it is grown almost exclusively for winter cabbage, and they annually export large quantities to other countries. It will stand long journeys and keep far into the spring, the heads are of medium size, are very solid and deep, and of a fine white color, making them en- tirely different from any other strain, and they keep better than any other sort, the heads be- ing just as solid and perfect when taken up in the spring as when they were put away in the fall. Quality fine, being tender and crisp, with but little waste heart. This will do best if planted a week or ten days earlier than our common drum- head sorts, and on deep, heavy loam, and liberally manured land. The heads are large, round and perfectly solid. Few outside leaves and does not crack. The flesh is firm, tender and white; most desirable for kraut as well as for all other purposes. It is about two weeks earlier in maturing than the other late main crop sorts. "We predict this cab- bage will lead all others as a main crop variety when better known.
