As an associate ofDickins, Ware, Asbury, Garrettson, and others in the ChristmasConference of 1784, he was one of the men who organized theMethodist Episcopal Church. He represented the South Caro-lina Conference in the General Conference of 1808, and was amember of the Committee of Fourteen appointed to deviseand report a plan for a Delegated General Conference. He waselected a delegate to the New York Conference in 1812 and 1816. When
