On com-pletion of hie course, Mr. Thomson was forsome time assistant to Rev. Dr. MCulloch,Greenock, and afterwards acted in a similarcapacity under Rev. Dr. Norman Macleod,in the Barony Church, Glasgow. His firstcharge was that of the North Parish, (Stir-ling, where he was ordained in 1866. Afterthree years in that sphere, he was trans-lated to Rothesay, where he had given 14years service when the call came to himfrom Rubislaw. Since his settlement inAberdeen, Mr. Thomson has devoted him-self to the duties of his pulpit and pastoraterather than to prominent public work, buthe has maintained his reputation as a cul-tured and thoughtful preacher, and in 1908he received the honorary degree of the University of Glasgow in recog-nition of his attainmen
