Ruins of Borgholm Slott (Castle), Öland, Sweden.

Johan III employed the architect Dominicus Pahr to design a grand new Renaissance palace on the site of the original medieval fortress. It was damaged in the Kalmar War and when Karl X Gustav became king he employed Nicodemus Tessin the Elder to restore it, but Karl's early death resulted in these plans never being finished.
