Y., May 4, 1824,and diedin Boise, Idaho, September15, 1902. He prepared for college inthe schools of his town, and enteredthe University in 1844, remainingtwo years. He studied law and was admittedto the bar in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1852,practiced his profession in that cityuntil 1877, when owing to failinghealth he was forced to give up activework. From 1877, he resided inCaUfornia, Utah, Colorado and met with marked success in hi-^profession; was attorney for severalrailroad companies and corporations;was considered the ablest cross ex-aminer of witnesses in northern Ohio. He was married, April 18, 1854, to Lucy Dix Mahan of New York, whodied in Cleveland, Ohio, October 31, 1880 Five children were born to them:Florence Maude, born February 22, 1855, married Mr. John Jaques, residesin Sevilla, Spain; George Herbei-t, born October 6, 1856, resides in Boise,Idaho; Charles Mahan, born April 13, 1860, died August, 1902; HarryClarence, born May 6, 1864, resides in Boise, Idaho; Frank Theodore, bornOctober 1,1868, resides in Boise, Idaho.
