28/05/14 In this photo you can see the artwork for the design hanging on the wall behind Wendy Greatorex (46). has been designing the Hand's Well well-dressings for 27 years. She began helping to make them when she was two-years-old. This year, her design is called 'The Lion and the Lamb'. Wooden boards coated in clay are decorated with tens of thousands of petals, leaves and pieces of foliage to create giant intricate mosaics. The boards, that each take teams of ten villages three days to make are part of the Well Dressing displays in Tissington, Derbyshire. The village has been decorating its six wells every year for more than six hundred years. The tradition is believed to be a celebration of the wells never running dry, giving life and sustaining the village during times of plague. After a church service today (Thursday) clergy from six parish will bless each of the well. Following in Tissington's footsteps many other villages in the Derbyshire area also have their own well dressing traditions. All Rights Reserved - F Stop Press. Tel: +44 (0)1335 300098
