Wall light in Generalshotel Stalinist VIP arrivals lounge at Berlin airport

The Generalshotel was built by the Soviet military administration between 1947 and 1950 as an arrivals lounge for VIPs and senior military commanders flying into East Berlin. It was handed to the East German government in 1961, Cold War era VIPs and leaders including Fidel Castro, Leonid Brezhnev and Yuri Gagarin were welcomed there. It is due to be torn down in September 2023 to make way for the German government's fleet of jets.
