This device_ consists of a hollowcone fitted in the top of the exhaust pipe, the largest outsidediameter of which is equal to the inside diameter of the tip ofthe nozzle. This cone is connected to the horizontal arm of ashaft which extends out of the side of the smoke-box, and isoperated from the cab by means of a screw and hand wheel.
