Kathmandu's 'Freak Street' was the ultimate destination on the Hippy (or Hipple) Trail of the 1960s and 1970s, the overland route eastbound across Asia. Here too the serial killer Charles Sobhraj, 'The Serpent', preyed on a number of his victims.
