The latter partof the academic year 1S72-1S73 he was instructorin Mathematics in the Sheffield Scientific School ofYale University, and in June, 1S73, was appointedProfessor of Mathematics in that institution. Heheld that position till June, 1901, when on accountof impaired health he resigned his chair and retiredto Longmeadow, Massachusetts. He was marriedAugust 20, 1856, to Caroline C. Doty, and hasfour children : John Frederick, Helen (wife of theReverend Harry R. Miles), William Russel, andAlice ALLEN JEREMIAH CURTIS 1871. He had exceptional gifts as a teacher, andhis early death was much deplored. STILLMAN WILLIAMS ROBINSON was born at South Reading, Vermont, March 6,1838, son of Ebenezer and Adeline (Williams)Robinson. He is of New England ancestry, beingdescended on the fathers side from William Robin-son, of Newton, Massachusetts, who was born aboutthe middle of the seventeenth century.
